ANGELI SONO MESSAGGERI, OGGI VUOL DIRE BLOGGER

Gli affreschi di Tiepolo rappresentano scene di sfarzo e fastosità. Guardare Tiepolo oggi, per me, è pensare a come la ricchezza contemporanea è divisa: una piccola fetta di cittadini privilegiati possiede l’abbondanza, mentre la stragrande maggioranza della popolazione si divide l’iniquo rimanente.
La primavera araba è la reazione a questa situazione per nulla democratica, la denuncia di abusi di potere che si estende su tutto il Mediterraneo.

Le prime tre opere esposte a “Enigma della modernità” sono state definite degli angeli (del web). Angelo significa messaggero, dunque oggi, secondo me, è il blogger. Lavorando plasticamente con tessuti, cucito e filo, disegnando su stoffe che formano cyber-angeli, ho creato dei leggeri oggetti di cotone, dei “vestiti” impossibili da indossare per un umano, poiché le proporzioni del busto sono piccole, infanzia, mentre la lunghezza dell’abito è per una statura molto alta, che non tocca terra e che vola.
I geroglifici contemporanei del web sono il nuovo linguaggio internazionale ricamato sui tre angeli di cotone presentati in forme semplici e lineari, usato in particolar modo sui blog e su social network (chiamati social media).

La quarta opera presentata è un “Putto nero” creato con elegante lucida stoffa scura. Formalmente ispirato dalle baroccheggianti e voluminose pieghe sui vestiti nelle opere di Tiepolo (anche dal Tiepolo nero, dove il tratto duro dell’incisione rende perfettamente il volume morbido degli abiti), il “Putto nero” svolazza portando dentro di sé fotogrammi video, i quali rappresentano scene di manifestazioni durante le rivoluzioni arabe.
I video frame, scelti e stampati su transfer a caldo, sono tratti da YouTube, postati da cittadini anonimi, i quali hanno l’urgenza di pubblicare informazioni su portali virtuali, spazi efficaci per dare voce al singolo individuo, a costo di diventare autori anonimi e perdere il nome e l’identità (ma salvarsi la pelle nei regimi dittatoriali).
Il lavoro pone anche la problematica del diritto d’autore, dove la riconoscenza dell’”Io” diventa più importante del messaggio stesso.

ANGELS ARE MESSENGERS, TODAY MEANS BLOGGER

Tiepolo shows in frescos the rich and opulent society of the 1700s. Looking at Tiepolo today means for me to think about how contemporary wealth is shared unfairly: how there is a small number of people who are very rich, and a large number of people who are very poor.
The Arab Spring is one reaction the undemocratic social situation and the abuse of power which extends all over the Mediterranean.

Three artworks shown at “Enigma of Modernity” are angels (of the web). 'Angel' means 'messenger' - that is today for me, 'a blogger'. I also created 'cyber-angels' - drawing with thread and sewing on cloth.

I made a light cotton object which is too small on top to be worn because of the proportions which are very small (reflecting ideas about innocence) and on the bottom, I made it very big and long for someone who doesn’t touch the floor and who can fly. One angel is white, one is light beige and the third is black (matt); coloured drawings complete the still video print which is on cloth and threads are free to twist and leave their own sign on the piece.

Contemporary hieroglyphs of the web are the new international language - these are sewn onto the three angels and are used most of all on blogs and on social networks.

The forth artwork that will be presented will not be an angel, but a “Black Putto” created on black glossy cloth. Formally inspired by Baroque forms, where pleats of cloths are painted like Tiepolo in the coloured fresco and also in the Black Tiepolo where the hard dark sign of the engraving, gives volume and softness to the cloth. The flying “Black Putto” has a still video hidden inside, representing a scene about the Arab revolution.
The video still is printed on cloth after be chosen from YouTube, posted by anonymous citizens who feel the need to show information on this virtual portal, giving voice to the individual, even if becoming anonymous and loosing their name and identity (but staying alive in dictatorial regimes).

Problems regarding copyright are completely turned upside -down, where acknowledgements of “I” is more important than the message itself.

An angel is a messenger, for me a blogger, today.
My angels are made of cloth and speak about copyright and anonimity in blogs and social network, an ENIGMA OF MODERNITY.

I was working for three art exhibition in March 2012. Now I only have two.
It's the first time -and I hope the last one- that an art exhibition is postponed (or deleted?) because of political reasons.
Political is for me civil involvement, is to speak about human beings, is to ask myself in which world I want to live in. For some people, political means party and for sure economic interest. What a poverty!

PARLIAMENT IMPROV. N° 1 "THE BABEL SESSIONS"


While discussing the complex writings of Bruno Latour, a group of international artists will spend 7 days in a confined space in Zürich, building something a kin to the tower of Babel. This pperformative experiment will be carried out in the hopes of creating a common language through artistic practice.
Using clay - the second common building block/ the common thread, and additional support materials brought in by each participant, they will jam together, discuss, argue most likely, but will try to find within this "art parliament" a common ground in the form of a final tactile construction or piece of art and aesthetic system of some unpredictable kind.
Inspired by the myth of the Tower of Babel, they will be delving into the demands of discourse, dialog and exchange, bravely toiling to overcome the barriers between cultures, languages and artistic disciplines. Throughout the week, visitors and guests will be invited into this laboratory to join in the debate and sometimes contribute to the work in progress.


This Babel session takes place in Neugasse 41 in Zürich

VIDEO "SKY OVER AL FARA'A REFUGEE CAMP (WINGS OF DESIRE)"

I was invited in Palestina at the International Artist Workshop, organised by Al Mahatta Gallery of Ramallah, where I create my first video

“SKY OVER AL FARA'A REFUGEE CAMP
(WINGS OF DESIRE)”
2011

The video shows a group of girls running along narrow streets in the refugee camp, wearing white wings that they made from paper.
The video was inspired by the film “Himmel über Berlin” (literally translated as “Sky over Berlin” but was presented in English as “Wings of desire”), directed by Wim Wenders in the 1987, two years before the fall of the Berlin wall.

In Wim Wenders’ film one of the two angels who watch over the people of Berlin wants to become a man. The transformation happens and the first thing he feels is the blood and the pain because of the fall from the sky, after that he feels, tastes, smells, loves, looks.... like a man.

With the video, I wanted to give wings to the children in the refugee camp. Each child made their own wings, their own unique and personal wings. Wings to fly and dream with, to move and play with.....
Wings of desire which let fly over their refugee camp and beyond the reality of The Occupation.

“CIELO SOPRA AL FARA'A CAMPO PROFUGHI
(ALI DEL DESIDERIO)”

Il video mostra un gruppo di bambine che corrono nelle strette strade del campo profughi e indossano delle bianche ali di carta che hanno costruito loro.
Il video è ispirato dal film “Himmel über Berlin” (tradotto letteralmente in “Cielo sopra Berlino”, ma presentato in inglese con “Ali del desiderio”) diretto da Wim Wenders nel 1987, due anni prima della caduta del muro di Berlino.

Nel film di Wim Wenders, uno degli angeli che osservano gli abitanti della città, vuole diventare un uomo. La trasformazione succede e la prima cosa che prova è il sangue e il dolore a causa della caduta dal cielo, dopo sente anche i sapori, gli odori, le emozioni, l’amore ... come un uomo.

Con questo video volevo dare ali ai bambini del campo profughi. Ogni bambino ha costruito le proprie ali, le sue uniche e personali ali. Ali per volare e per sognare, per muoversi e giocare...
Ali del desiderio che consentono di volare sopra il campo profughi, al di là della realtà dell’occupazione.

L’ABITO DELL’EXTIMITÀ

Pensando alla tematica “Extimità. Lo sconosciuto familiare” voglio parlare di social network, specialmente di facebook sul quale ho lavorato, dove l’intimo viene reso pubblico.
Il riferimento alla fiaba “Il vestito nuovo dell’imperatore” di Hans Christian Andersen è essenziale, il quale con la fiaba denuncia situazioni dove la maggioranza di osservatori sceglie volontariamente di non far parola di un fatto ovvio a tutti, fingendo di non vederlo (situazione estremamente attuale che si presenta spesso nel contesto politico e sociale).
Il confronto con facebook (FB), mi interessa, perchè mi fa porre domande sull’intimità: quando un individuo sceglie di mostrare il proprio intimo virtualmente, rimane esso intimo, dal momento che diventa pubblico? Può il privato divenire pubblico restando intimo?
Mostrare l’intimità pubblicamente, esibisce, evidenzia e svela o piuttosto nasconde?
Ho creato un vestito di plastica trasparente sul quale ho cucito le foto dei profili dei “miei amici” di FB, i quali coprono la mia intimità. L'extimità è l'altro cucito sull'Io (trasparente) che mi dà forma.
Naturalmente i fili che cadono e si aggrovigliano vogliono creare legami, fondamentali per me.


EXTIMITY DRESS

The theme “Extimity. The familiar stranger” - I want to think about social networks, most of all Facebook, on which I worked, where intimacy becomes public.
The reference of the story “The Emperor’s new clothes” of Hans Christian Andersen is essential in my work. It denounces situations where the majority of the observers willingly choose not to comment an obvious fact to all, pretending not to see (a situation very often seen in political and social contexts).
I’m interested in the confrontation with Facebook (FB) and asking questions about public and private intimacy. When an individual chooses to show something intimate on the web, is it intimate, even if it becomes public? Can what is private remain intimate even if it is public? Does showing a level of intimacy in public, exhibit, show and reveal, or rather hide our real intimate selves?
I created a transparent plastic dress, I stitched profile pictures of all my Facebook friends onto it in order to cover my ‘intimacy’. Extimity is the Other (the pictures) stitched onto the Ego (the dress) thus shaping my physical person and inner being.
Of course, threads will fall and get twisted creating links between the people who define me and my place.

FANZINE CACTyou! to customize/da personalizzare

Dear Friends and Supporters of CACT__

The first issue of CACTyou! fanzine, completely dedicated and hand made by Aglaia Haritz has been released.

Vedova Nera (Black Widow) is the special project inserted within the fanzine CACTyou! #1, February 2011.
The art work has been produced in 70 numbered copies and is a linocut on fabric ‘Satinette’ made with oil colour from an original engraving by Aglaia Haritz. The different characteristics of each copy make them all unique.
This work has been conceived by Mrs Haritz as a wall installation to combine with the fanzine, as long as you hang the unfolded paper pages of the fanzine next to the work on fabric.
The fanzine also contains a music CD.

The artist Aglaia Haritz can be contacted, if you wish her to customize your linocut. She’ll sew it for you as a unique piece. The cost amounts to CHF 100.-/€ 80.-

È uscito il primo numero della CACTyou! fanzine, interamente dedicata e realizzata da Aglaia Haritz.

Vedova Nera è il progetto speciale incluso nella fanzine CACTyou! #1, febbraio 2011.
L’opera è stata prodotta in 70 esemplari numerati ed è costituita da una linoleografia, ovvero una stampa su stoffa ‘Satinette’ realizzata con colore ad olio da un’incisione originale di Aglaia Haritz su linoleum. Ogni copia ha caratteristiche proprie che la rendono pezzo unico.
La presente opera è stata pensata da Haritz come un’installazione a parete da abbinare alla fanzine: basta, infatti, sfilare da questo nuovo prodotto editoriale artistico il contenuto cartaceo cucito ed appenderlo accanto all’opera su stoffa.
